Being Socially Responsible

We recognise the opportunity we have to influence culture and set the standards for excellence not only in fine jewellery and craftsmanship but also in what it means to be responsible citizens.  We believe fine craftsmanship starts with responsibly sourcing high-quality materials and continues through to delivery.

We are proud to share a commitment we have made to create a better way of working. We aim to contribute to sustainable and ethical practices at the heart of our own business, and across our partnerships.

In the face of climate change, poverty and widespread declines in our wildlife, the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions and protect wildlife grows more acute by the year. There is no magic formula to tackle the challenges that face us, but the buying decisions we make every day are a simple but powerful form of direct action which we support by being responsible.

Our social responsibility principles include:

  • Caring for our environment

  • Responsible sourcing

  • Welfare of all

Caring for our environment

When packing our products, we take care to ensure they reach you in pristine condition. To limit our impact on the environment we use recycled material to ensure the impact on the environment is minimised with waste being reduced.

Our pearls are also from responsibly sustainably managed sources in a caring environment. Pearls from sustainably managed sources mean our future generations can also enjoy the luxuries we have today whilst ensuring the wellbeing of the environment.

Our packaging is FSC® certified. The FSC® mark guarantees that all materials come from an FSC® forest, where no more wood is cut down than the forest can reproduce. This means better protection of the animal- and plant life, and all foresters have proper training, safety equipment and a decent wage.

Responsible Sourcing

We aim to ensure our jewels meet an internationally recognized sustainability standard as they are made by hand using environmentally conscious processes which helps supports the health of environment, colleagues and our customers.

We work with our suppliers around the world to ensure the pearls we use are from sustainably and ethically managed sources.

Precious gems and materials alike are both from nature, and nature should be respected.

Ethical considerations

We like to ensure we source our precious and semi-precious gemstones responsibly. This means we ensure we do not purchase any ‘conflict gems’ and human rights such as health, wellbeing and no child labour is used in producing our jewellery.

We do this by undertaking research on suppliers and by having honest and robust conversations with suppliers about their practices. By building rapport we can have conversations about our suppliers values, what type of business they run, who works for them etc (by focusing on social topics such as human rights, conflict minerals, working conditions, labour type etc). We primarily tend to work with small family run businesses across the globe, who are willing to have these open and frank conversations.

The importance of responsible resourcing is important to us as we increasingly take the evaluation of environmental and social performance beyond our own operations and integrate it into supply chain and purchasing decisions. At Maison NK we give consideration to the environment we live in. We do this in a number of ways to include:

  • Minimising waste from gemstone cutting and shaping

  • Ensuring recycled metals are used where available and commercially viable

  • Minimising the waste of precious metals by effective measurement of metals and most economical usage during production

  • Recycling any left over previous metals and gems

  • Use of sustainable packaging with the option of allowing customers to request no product packaging

Welfare of all

We want to make a different to the lives of people who help produce the things we love. To ensure they remain happy and dedicated we aim to ensure the raw materials we purchase allows people to have decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for pearl farmers and workers in the world.

Trading fairly creates a better world for us all and provides opportunities for many to sustain their livelihood. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Our pearl farmers get a better deal. And that means they can make their own decisions, control their future and lead the dignified life everyone deserves. The precious metals we use are from suppliers that have been certified fair trade to ensure our products from the moment of creation are helping society at large. Whilst we do source our precious gems from across the world we do check with our suppliers to ensure they confirm to our commitments and have processes in place to meet our high standards. This does not solely involve sourcing high quality products. Some of these commitments include ensuring there is no child labour involved, no modern slavery/ forced labour or unethical business practices in sourcing and selling the precious gems.

You can make the ultimate guilt-free purchase from our selection of stylish and sought-after jewels.
